What is one off-the-beaten path activity visitors must try?

A must is participating at an Indigo workshop at a local hacienda. Indigo has been used for centuries dating back to the Mayan people. Visitors may take part in a workshop and learn how to dye cloth with indigo utilizing the traditional method of the Mayan.

List your top three favorite reasons to visit El Salvador, and why.

  • El Salvador remains an authentic destination as the tourism industry is in a very early state. Many visitors may find a whole beach to themselves or colonial towns with only the locals walking on the street. It gives a very good representation of how the everyday Salvadoran lives.
  • The country is totally different than what you would expect from anything you’ve read in the media. El Salvador offers so much more than the beautiful volcanoes and surfing, that by the end of the trip, you wish you had more time to explore the country. You will always leave with a smile on your face.
  • There’s a vast array of activities and sites a visitor is able to see in just one day. The size of the country allows visitors to explore the city, volcanoes, Mayan sites, and beach in a short timeframe – just a taste of what can be further explored with a longer stay.

Where would you send a client to experience the rich culture of El Salvador?

I would send a client to visit the local communities in the rural area of the country. The small colonial towns of El Salvador are just beautiful. With Suchitoto as an enchanting colonial style town and the Flowers Route with the amazing colorful small villages, the traditions of each town allow the visitor to really discover the roots of El Salvador’s culture.

If you had just four words to describe El Salvador, what would they be?

Pupusas (a traditional Salvadoran dish), Smiles, Volcanoes, and Affordable.
